The Pastorate

The Pastorate guides, nurtures and supports the spiritual growth of our congregation. Led by our Senior Pastor, the pastoral team offers Christ-centred leadership, pastoral care and a welcoming home where everyone can experience the transforming power of the Gospel.

In a Baptist church the Pastorate is one of two offices; the other is the Deacons. The Pastorate oversees the spiritual life of the church, while the Deacons lead in benevolence, and each complements the work of the other.

Our pastors through the years

Effort Baptist Church has been led by sixteen pastors. The first was Rev. Moore T. Worrell, who led the founding immigrants in 1875. The longest unbroken pastorate was that of Rev. Zechariah T. Walker (20 years); the shortest was Rev. William L. Shaw II (1987).

Seven ministers have served as Acting Pastor, and two as Associate Pastor: Rev. Isaac M. Glayweon (2002–2020) and Rev. Monen Jacquelyn Duoe, the church’s first female Associate Pastor, inducted on October 11, 2020.

Our current Senior Pastor is Rev. Trocon Wilfred Langford, Sr.
